The Male and Female Catheterization Course is designed to provide healthcare professionals with comprehensive training in urinary catheterization for both male and female patients. This course covers the anatomy and physiology of the urinary system, indications for catheterization, catheter types, and procedural techniques.

Catheterization training courses are aimed at professional such as nurses and carers working in a healthcare setting or in the community. This course will provide workers with knowledge and understanding to perform the catheterization procedure on male and female clients. The training aims to equip the healthcare staffs to understand their responsibilities in recognising and responding to abuse, handling, and referring safeguarding concerns while working with vulnerable adults.

This training consists of a theory session and practical simulated session on a male and female model. Those training for the first time will require competency and supervision by a competent assessor.

  • Indications, contraindications, and risks, of male and female catheterisation
  • Maintaining privacy and dignity, chaperoning, consent
  • Catheterisation in best interests and agitated patients
  • Differentiating a male and female catheter sizes
  • (Safe) insertion, maintenance, replacement and removal or urinary catheters
  • Suprapubic catheter management
  • Monitoring, prevention, recognition, and management of complications.
  • Ethical and legal issues.
  • When to raise concerns and call a doctor
